Después se huyó a Haití en dónde recibió el apoyo y protección del Nuevo presidente Haitiano, Alexandre Pétion. Pasó dos aňos en Haití. Su residencia se encontró en Jacmel. En 1817, con muchos soldados Haitianos y materiales que le dió Pétion, desembarcó en Venezuela para continuar su lucha para liberar a muchos paises de la América latina. Podemos decir que Simón Bolívar podia aprender o escuchar algún Creole Haitiano. Estuvo en contacto con soldados Haitianos que lucharon en la Guerra de independencia de Haití.
